Biography
Robert (Bob) Paul Bauer is a respected Canadian composer, broadcaster, performer, conductor, arts administrator, educator and adjudicator. He worked for CBC Radio for 30 years as a recording engineer and music producer until his retirement in 2006.
Bauer has always been an advocate of new Canadian music. As such, he continuously promoted Canadian composers in his work with CBC radio. He is one of the founders of three of Canada’s leading new music concert presenters - ArrayMusic in Toronto, Upstream Music Association and Musikon Concert Society, both in Halifax. He was also a co-artistic director of the Oscillations Festival of Electroacoustic Music. Bauer served for 30 years on the Atlantic regional council of the Canadian Music Centre.

His work as a composer was recognized early with a Canadian League of Composers Award in 1971.
He has also received several East Coast Music Awards.
He has worked in numerous musical forms, primarily chamber music, jazz ensembles and
electro-acoustic music, but he has also composed some orchestral works.
Bauer’s works for solo guitar and electronics are considered ground breaking in Canadian composition.
Although his career began in Toronto, his CBC work took him first to Ottawa and then to Halifax.
Since his retirement he continues to compose, record and play jazz guitar with the
Tuesday Night Big Band. In addition he has taken up conducting of two community ensembles:
the Bedford Leisure Club Orchestra and the Dartmouth Concert Band.
